How does animal communication work?
When you do animal communication you use your intuitive abilities to send and receive information as thoughts, visual images, emotions and sensations.
Here's an example of how it works. A client called me about her horse to find out why he was being so uncooperative. She gave me his name and description and I used this to get in touch with him. I closed my eyes and imagined him right in front of me. When I had a clear image, I introduced myself to him by sending him thoughts. I mentally explained what I was doing, and asked him why he was being so difficult lately. Very rapidly, he sent me thoughts and pictures indicating that he did not like his current stable and far preferred his previous one. He got very specific, telling me that the people at the previous stable all loved him and at the current one no one even noticed him. He also showed me that he got to be outside all day at the other place but was hardly out of his stall in the new place. He said he was trying to tell his person, through his behavior, that he was very unhappy with his life right now. When I conveyed all this to his person she was shocked. All the information I received was true but she hadn't told me any of it. She was amazed that I could have gotten those details from her horse. She also told me that she had been feeling the same things about her horse but had not consciously acted on these feelings. With the information I provided she decided to immediately begin searching for a better stable.
This type of nonverbal, mental exchange of information can happen between people too, especially when they know each other well. Many people have the experience of knowing what a partner or relative is thinking. I believe you can communicate intuitively like this with all forms of life. It just takes a little study and practice. «Top»
How is it scientifically possible to do this?
The answer appears to lie in recent experiments and developing theories in the field of quantum physics. Some quantum physicists are postulating that all matter is interconnected. In one experiment, the polarization of a pair of photons, born in the same interaction but traveling in opposite directions, is measured. The polarization of one photon appears to be altered by the mere fact of observing the other photon.
If all matter is indeed aware of all other matter, then we can tap into a collective pool of awareness or consciousness to know whatever we wish. This concept of a universal mind (known as the akashic records in Hindu philosophy) is thousands of years old. The existence of a universal consciousness is what allows us to connect and communicate with any being anywhere at any time. «Top»
Why is animal communication becoming so popular?
People are devoted to their animals and want to make them as happy as possible. Animal communication offers a way to do that. It is also thrilling to think you can find out how your animal thinks and feels about life and about you. I believe we all communicated intuitively with animals and nature as children. We all remember, even if only unconsciously, how wonderful it was and are attracted to the promise of being able to do this again.
Now that animal communication is on TV, there is an exponential growth of interest. The basis for this is still the deep attachment and memory we carry with us from childhood of having had this kind of connection before.
I think there is something happening on a more esoteric level too. I believe that the animals and other inhabitants of the earth are urging us, intuitively, to return to this natural state, regain our connection with them, and restore health and balance to the world. «Top»
What do you think of the TV show, The Pet Psychic?
I think it's great. The show has exposed millions of people to the idea that animals have feelings, can think, and are conscious beings with same kinds of needs and wants that humans have. This is a long overdue antidote to the typical scientific view that animals act only out of instinct and are incapable of rational thought or complex emotion. Sonja is very compassionate toward animals and I think she is doing a lot to promote animal welfare. She also has some amazingly accurate results from her communications. I'm glad she was courageous enough to do the show, though I wish they had come up with a different title! «Top»
How accurate are you?
I find I am about 80 to 90 percent accurate for most cases. To assess this scientifically, I would make each response I receive from an animal a data point. Then I would check all the responses with the animal's person to verify the results. I have done that analysis on many cases and come up 80, 90, and 100 percent accurate. But I don't do this kind of analysis on every case. So my estimate of 80 to 90 percent accurate is a rough estimate. «Top»
How do you help people who call for a consultation?
I help people resolve animal behavior problems, like separation anxiety in dogs, and training problems, such as spooking or refusing to trailer in horses. I am also called to help introduce new animals to each other, find out about an animal's past owners and experiences, interview a prospective new animal, discover the needs and wants of a sick or dying animal, talk to an animal after death, and find lost animals. Often people call me as a last resort, when they have tried everything else to resolve a bad situation. By talking directly with the animal and getting the animal's perspective, seemingly hopeless situations can be turned around. «Top»
Can you describe some recent cases?
I recently worked with a woman who was having trouble training her German shepherd. The dog had been attacked when young and was becoming dog aggressive at the training trials. She worried that they might not be able to compete at all. I spoke with the dog and got her to tell me about the times she had been attacked. I explained to her that most dogs weren't going to act that way and assured her that her person would protect her. I explained that she wouldn't be able to go out much is she kept growling and lunging at other dogs. I gave the woman a whole list of things to try with the dog including flower essences and bodywork. I also gave her directions about how to talk to her dog and what to say. At the next training trial, the woman reported that her dog was completely changed. She reassured her dog that everything was safe and that she was protected. The dog didn't even pay attention to the other dogs; she completely ignored them, even when two dogs got into a tussle right next to her.
In another recent communication, a woman was worried that her horse was depressed and possibly ill. When I spoke with the horse I discovered that the horse really wanted to be out in pasture and to be with other horses, like she had been in the past. I told the woman to find a new place and get the horse checked by a veterinarian as well. She found a place to move the horse right away and noticed an immediate change in the horse's behavior and vitality. The veterinarian could not find anything wrong with the horse and concluded the horse had just really needed to be out on pasture and be part of a herd. «Top»
How hard is it to learn this?
Learning how to talk to animals intuitively is easy. You just have to accept or at least try out the belief that animals can understand anything you say, think, or feel to them, no matter where you are. Once you truly accept that, and start talking to your animals or thinking to them, as if they can understand you, you will see a huge shift in their behavior and in your relationship.
The hard part is hearing back. Since you did this as a child, you actually know how to do it already. What you have to learn is how to recover your ability. It is a bit like recovering a foreign language you spoke only when you were very young. The hard part ends up being learning how to overcome your blocks and doubts. Over the last 13 years of teaching I've developed teaching techniques, described in my book, that make the process of learning this skill fun and fairly easy. You will need to practice though. Without practice you will be unable to prove to yourself that this ability is real. If you don't believe this is real you wont keep doing it and you wont make it a part of your life. «Top»
Is it easier for some people than for others?
Some people do have an easier time of it. I've noticed that people who were raised with psychics or raised to believe in and trust their intuition have a much easier time. People who were raised to be creative and artistic, usually have an easier time too. People who are writers and know how to do automatic writing (writing whatever comes into your head without stopping) also seem to be able to master this skill quickly. The ones who have a harder time are the scientist types, like me, and anyone who was actively discouraged from being fanciful or intuitive when growing up. Men seem to have a harder time with this field than women. I think that's because women are allowed to be intuitive and somewhat odd, but men are expected to be sensible, rational and in control. Studying animal communication can therefore be a challenge for some men. «Top»
How can people develop their intuition?
Each of us has a functioning intuition, but we usually choose to ignore and override it. The first step to developing intuition is to start paying attention to it. Pay attention to any hunches or gut feelings you get and record them in a notebook. Constantly review what you have written to assess the accuracy of the messages your intuition sent you. I am sure you will find that your intuition is often your best source of advice.
You can also directly ask your intuition for guidance. If you are confused about a situation or unsure what decision to make about something, ask your intuition what you should do. Then sit quietly with eyes closed and see what hunches, ideas or gut feelings come to you. Again, record this information and track it to see how useful and effective it was. As you discover the accuracy of your intuition you will be more inclined to use it and consult it in a variety of situations.
Another practice, is to start to guess the outcome of something before it happens, like guessing who is on the phone when it rings. If you do this consistently and make a record of your guesses, you should find your accuracy increasing within a week or so. «Top»
Have you worked with wild animals?
Yes, I have worked with lots of wild animals. I talk every day to the wild animals around my house and those I meet on walks. In the book I have a chapter on communicating with wildlife that teaches you how to talk to wildlife. «Top»
What do wild animals think of people?
Some wild animals are fed up with humans: we are destroying their homes and way of life and they don't see any use for us. Others are more philosophical and can be very interested in approaching and connecting with humans. I find it varies from individual to individual, and you can't make any broad generalizations about species. Usually what a wild animal thinks of humans is a reflection of how humans have treated that animal or its kin. The key to good wildlife-human interactions lies with our intentions. If we are complimentary, respectful, and willing to negotiate and reciprocate, our interactions with wildlife can be quite magical.
In ancient times, humans considered wild animals to be wise counselors and consulted them for guidance. In the book, I suggest ways to recapture that kind of relationship with wildlife. «Top»
