Volume 11 No. 1, January-March 2008

It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.

~Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

A New Book

I have a new book coming out in March 2008 called Ask Your Animal: Resolving Behavioral Issues through Intuitive Communication. It is a compilation of all the useful advice I have ever given anyone about how to use intuitive communication for behavioral issues, to get animals to get along better, to get closer to your animals, or when working with shelter animals and animals in crisis, when trying to find lost animals, and when dealing with the death of your animal. I also included a chapter on practical uses of intuition when interacting with wild animals and nature. If you are on my mailing list you will be getting a special purchase offer post card from my publisher, New World Library when the book comes out. If you want to be added to my list email me your address. I hope you like my new book.

The Baby Whisperer

When I was in the Netherlands this September, my colleague Gerrie Huijts told me about the Scottish man who calls himself the baby whisperer. I had never heard of him. He has a show on Dutch TV and I watched an episode. It was fascinating. He works intuitively with very young children who aren’t able to talk yet. What he does is very similar to what an animal communicator does, just with children instead of animals. In the episode I watched he was very accurate about what happened in the early lives of the children and even about their experiences in utero. The suggestions he gave for how to make the children happier and better adjusted seemed to work well. Soon he will probably be appearing on American TV. His website is http://www.derekogilvie.com.

America’s Psychic Challenge

I don’t have cable because if I did I would just watch TV all the time. I do have DVD and video so I can watch films. My friend and colleague Karen Berke keeps me up to date on the more interesting shows on TV. She recently lent me a tape of the America’s Psychic Challenge show. I was happy to see that someone finally devised a way to test psychic ability in a creative way. In the past the tests devised were rote and boring. In this program the psychics do readings of people, relay information about a crime just by being in the location where the crime was committed, find lost people, and do dozens of other really interesting and well designed tests of their ability. It is a good idea well executed and I thought the psychics were very impressive. The website for the show is http://www.mylifetime.com/on-tv/shows/americas-psychic-challenge.

Miyah

Phyllis Wessing noticed a large white stray dog living in her neighbor's overgrown grove. The dog had been shot at by neighbors and was in danger of being killed by hunters or by cars. Phyllis and her husband George wanted to save the dog, who was afraid of humans.

They started feeding and bringing water to her at the neighbor’s farm Gradually, they encouraged her to come over to their side of the road. At this point Phyliss called me for help. Phylis was afraid of the dog, not knowing anything about her history. We talked about how to safely approach the dog to see if she was tamable. I talked to the dog and explained everything to her and got a good feeling about her, but told Phyliss to proceed with caution. Here are excerpts from her email notes to me about connecting with the dog.

“This morning was a good one. I believe you already have sent good thoughts the dogs way. She stayed at the fence and watched me fill bird feeders, even after she found her treat, the pig snooter. She looks like a white German shepherd or mix, perhaps with malmute.

“Update on the white dog. Midday today we took our dogs out and there she was eating from dish across the road. She continued to eat, while my guys bounced around back fenced yard. But what is really great she later came to get more food across the road and a treat from me and then stayed to watch our guys play.

“However what I am really amazed at is she returned about mid afternoon. She was walking down our driveway like she lived here. Investigated the front lawn and trees then she proceeded onto our veg garden, grove, out buildings and ended up at the barn and went inside She stayed and ate what I offered. She is still really afraid of me, but I told her I will not come to her, if she wants contact she will need to come to me.

“We were able to close her into the barn. We have named her Miyah and she has been settling in the barn quite well. Since Friday afternoon she openly shows delight at my coming to see her. She is still shy with George but warming.

“Today she met my dogs, Meg, Sunny, and Kodi. Sunny is slow to warm up to strange dogs, but feel they had a nice first visit in the barn. Meg barks and jumps about wildly wagging her tail, she did same with Kodi. They touched noses thru the fence.

“Miyah is sleeping peacefully in our family room. Meg, Sunny and Kodi are too. George is watching tv. I can not believe what I have seen. A week ago she was cowering in my barn. Now she is happy and relaxed in my house.”

Max’s Lost Boot

This story was sent in by Jeanne Joslyn.

“My Appaloosa gelding Max has a talent for injuring his feet. Last summer he somehow managed to tear off a good chunk of his heel. The vet treated it and advised me to keep it as clean as I could so I decided to use one of my new Easy Boot Epics to protect it so he could be turned out. The following morning I came out to find Max sans the boot waiting for his breakfast. Since their pasture is close to 8 acres I didn't relish the thought of stomping around all day looking for my brand new $ 60 boot. Still new to animal communication, but convinced of its validity, I decided to try asking Max were the boot had come off and hopefully shorten the search time. I focused in and asked Max my question but I got no answer. I concentrated harder and asked again two more times with no answer. I looked at Max who looked decidedly sheepish and I knew that he could hear me. So I said "Come on Max, tell me where it is! I know you know." I got a brief glimpse of the boot resting near the run-in shed in the far pasture so I decided to go look there. I figured it was as good a place as any to start looking. Sure enough, I saw the boot sitting in the grass just about exactly where I had seen it in my minds eye. As I picked it up I suddenly realized why Max had been so reluctant to answer me. He had apparently torn it off his foot forcibly and it was severely damaged. I shook my head as I passed him going out the gate and I could swear he had a guilty look on his face.”

Annabelle

This is Annabelle, one of the dogs featured in my new book, Ask Your Animal. Lorraine Smith rescued Annabelle from the Katrina disaster. At first she was not sure if she would be able to keep her as Annabelle was dog and cat aggressive. After much soul searching, communicating, hard work and good fortune, Lorraine was able to help Annabelle completely turn around so that today she can play easily and safely with dogs AND cats!
